As a group, we’ve all steadily improved at separating trolls/spooks/shills. Recently, I was impressed with the way some of our trolls have been handled with calm, reasoned, expert content knowledge displayed by FReeQs and FReeps on this thread.
I confronted someone on a prior thread whom I was certain was a troll, only to discover (too late) that they really were just thinking hypothetically so far off the combined knowledge we’ve gathered already that I didn’t recognize it as legit question. I really do regret that - he had all the troll markings and catch phrases, or so I THOUGHT. I am learning to hesitate and inspect a little more. It might have helped if I didn’t address him as soon as I saw his post, but had instead read further down the thread to see how he had already interacted with others (i.e., what info FReeQs got out of him).
We will naturally continue to refine our detection criteria just as we’ve continued to cultivate all our skills throughout our threads. It’s my hope that we will all focus additional attention on our ability to make trolls lonely. :D
