>>Sounds prescient doesnt
Certainly does. Mother would have loved them. She adored spy books and was fascinated by coincidences. I’m still on a W.E.B. Griffin kick. When his books started falling apart, I just switched back to circling on his earlier ones. If you grind your teeth past as he repeats AGAIN the same intro character material, they’re a lot of fun.
McCarry’s books deal mostly in betrayals of country and friends...treason at every level, and those complicit “useful idiots” that give cover for traitors.
“spying”, to use that label for his books is a sort of click bait...very well written, very intelligent.

I appreciate his characters' humor even more -- since I discovered that he wrote several M*A*S*H episodes!
My wife still looks askance at me, when I'm reading his stuff at 2AM -- and, suddenly erupt in laughter... '-)
Agree about the intros -- but they do mean that you can just pick up that book you recently acquired -- and begin enjoying it, even if you haven't read all its predecessors...

W.E.B. Griffin! Thanks for another glimpse into the expansive mind of the multi-talented, "Mairdie"! '-)

(One benefit of a fading memory: when I finish a series, and "binge-read" right into another -- they're as enjoyable as the first time...) <GRIN>
