Wonder how the ballistics of the Marlin 357 compares to the 30-30 Winchester? I believe the 30-30 drops about 6 in the first 100 yards.
Ballistics are acceptable for deer hunting to 150 yards, which handles most of woods hunting. They are much worse than the .30-30 after that.
Actual difference off line of sight depends on the distance the rifle is zeroed for.
If zeroed at 125 yards, a .357 165 grain load at 1800 fps out of a rifle will be about 1.7 inches high at 75 yards and 2.25 inches low at 150 yards.
