Why all this for a person who did absolutely nothing besidesbeing born. A promise given way back when... But you probably would not believe IF I told you 'why'.

True. But - in reality - the Queen will only do something that Parliament would approve of. So while she has all these powers, she is quite constrained in their actual use.
For example, the Queen can dismiss a Prime Minister. But should she dismiss one who has great support in Parliament, there’d be hell to pay. In fact it could mean the end of the monarchy.
So as I see it, the Queen is pretty much a rubber-stamping figurehead. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Because she is also a check against a someone like Hitler rising to power in the UK.

My sentiments are similar to what you all posted. She seems to be a very likable person, for sure.
She maintains dignity and class in a role where she must always be firing on all cylinders with zero downtime.

We in America have no idea how important the Queen is to the Commonwealth. I have great respect for Queen Elizabeth for stepping into a role she was never supposed to have to begin with, and doing it well for 60+ years.

Oh, if only Britains royals had done nothing over the generations.
That family has been and is a menace.

She was a very young woman who was thrust into a an all-consuming job she may not have wanted.
That's how I view Harry and William, Harry especially. I'm sure all he wanted in life was to serve in the military with his comrades, do some pub hopping and chase women like every normal kid wanted.........
Unfortunately he was born to royalty so his every action is controlled by the family......

How can they close the Stockmarket for 12 days?
By law, in the USA, the market cannot be closed for more than 3 days ... just like banks. In the US, you cannot be denied access to your money for more than 72 hours.

Elizabeth didn’t want the job. Her uncle King Edward VIII should have reigned but abdicated in order to marry “the woman I love”. This meant the succession fell to her father who became King George VI. He only lasted sixteen years before dying in 1952, and this put Elizabeth on the throne at age 26.
Queen Elizabeth never forgave Edward now Duke of Windsor for causing her father’s early death.

Um, the Queen along with President Reagan and Pope John Paul II basically helped take out the USSR. Lots of books have been written about that minor accomplishment.

Most people have no clue how much power the Queen has quietly wielded over 60+ years, almost always to the benefit of civilization. Now I dont want to live under a monarch, even a constrained one, but to ignore the impact the Queen has had on the world as some (not you) do is just plain ignorant.
