It was great. About 700 of us Union re-enactors had marched up the main drag in Richmond to the Capitol. We had a band from the State of Maine in the lead, next was about 100 black re-enactors with bayonets fixed on their rifle muskets lead the rest of troops up to the Capitol. It was quite a show.
Off-point, but there used to be a restaurant housed in Lee’s old home called “Travellers” in Richmond. An excellent steak house. If you walked out into the back, the door of the back porch against which Brady photographed him and his sons immediately after the war is still there and intact. Probably to this day although it is private now, I believe.
