Well, that completely confuses the issue. As far as I know, the 1911 pistol was and is a .45 caliber semi-automatic side arm.

It’s big in Latin America due to “military” cartridges like .45 acp not being available for civilian use. It see it as a pretty snazzy cartridge, I’d like to have a 1911 in it. Pretty popular in competition too.
