I think you are on to something there.
The left tried to create an atmosphere so toxic that the President would never dream of setting up a meeting with Putin.
He has done it and they are apoplectic about everything.

I cannot remember where it was, but I read something similar the other day, and the penny dropped. It makes so much sense to me that this Russia, Russia, Russia business was designed to make it impossible for Trump to talk with Putin.
Would have worked on your average republican. Happily, Trump is made of sterner stuff.
