First, it looks like both chemicals have to be taken together for the tinnitus to be significantly reduced.

Second, the study did not demonstrate a cure for the tinnitus. The chemicals reduced awareness of tinnitus, but not the condition itself.

Third, the age of this study and the fact that tinnitus continues to be considered untreatable makes me suspect that the results were not repeated in subsequent studies.

Most treatments for tinnitus consist of strategies to distract attention from the ceaseless noise.

I have tinnitus because I have a condition that may cause me to go deaf.

Actually, there are other studies:

Hurtuk A, Dome C, Holloman CH, et al. Melatonin: can it stop the ringing? Ann Otol Rhinol Laryngol. 2011 Jul;120(7):433-40.

That is just one. I chose what I did because it was in a quick reference format and clearly stated it was double-blind.

Fair point on the “diminish” versus “cure.” I had to go back to catch that. Thank you.
