I paid about half that here in SC for a tankless installed, but I still thought that was highway robbery.

What I wanted was a NG tank water heater like I had before, but apparently they jacked the prices on those to make the tankless ones look good.

At least I can still get electric ones for my rentals without spending a mint.

I have a propane heated conventional WH with forced air ventilation fan. I have gotten two quotes from two plumbers for two options -

(1) current system replaced - $2700
(2) tankless WH w/ propane - $3000.

After reading a number of comments here, yours included, I think I have to do some more work on this. $1500 for a tankless compared to my quotes seems like a bargain at the moment.

Yeah, but with a tank you have 50 gal of waterin your house without even thinking about it.
