youtube ^ | 10 June 2018 | TAOFLEDERMAUS

We were able to make the impossible happen, test out two rare Gyrojet rocket guns. Remarkably, instead of just taking one or two shots, we were able to take 4 shots. We were able to learn a lot with these limited test still.

I remember when they came out. I was surprised they worked but they did.

I can’t see any advantage excepy maybe the guns would be cheaper to make.

Neat concept. Maybe something like this would be possible now with CNC machining? No more snapped drill bits.

Those rounds would be ideal for.a rapid fire weapon like a machine gun.

They would. No heat to worry about melting barrels.

I’m just checking out the basic design of the handgun.

It looks 3d printable.

Those rounds may be a PITA to make in 1960...but PC/CNC/drill press....makes that PITA go away.

Homemade rocket guns.

Is there even a category for that?

;)

If I remember right it was a caseless round. The propellant was solid and formed around the projectile and used electric ignition to eliminate the primer.

No litter of spent cartridge and reduces the weight of the cases for an infantryman to carry around.

If I remember correctly, it had a plastic, triangular case enclosing the powder or maybe an internal case. It did have a regular primer.

The trounds were not caseless. They formed part of the chamber. It was a revolver fed from a magazine.

Fascinating concept.

You are correct.

Case could be plastic or aluminum. It could also have a metallic adapter to contain conventional ammo.

Weird concept. I never read about it in detail before. I guess I confused it with another failed idea.

I googled the Dardick Revolver. Here's a cool thorough review (32 minutes) of one of these on Youtube.

No recoil

No eject phase, cylic rate doubled, at least.

Quiet

Used with a suppressor I’d say very interesting potential for SF units doing DA work.

No rifling is good....easier to home produce. But the accuracy is hideous. You’d have to make up with that with something like Metal Storm.

Ok.

So we’re using it, but it still sucks....and we gotta put a metric button of lead thru it before it hits something.

Sad. It’s too cool for that fate.

Is that the thing that supposedly uses the centripetal force of a rapidly spinning turret to shoot out ball bearings?

Freegards
