Just about every rock band in the world has recorded "Louie, Louie." But Richard Berry, who wrote and first recorded the song, once remarked that "if you can't play 'Louie, Louie,' you can't play anything."

Berry, who died a few years ago, lived in a residential neighborhood in South Central Los Angeles. He would often be seen strolling around the neighborhood wearing a sea captain's hat.
