‘The Last Jedi’ Director Mocks Angry Fans Wanting to Remake It: ‘Please Actually Happen’
The Wrap ^ | June 21, 2018 | Phil Hornshaw

Angry “Star Wars” fans have been up in arms over “The Last Jedi” since it released in December, so much so that one group claims it’s going to remake it.

A website called “RemakeTheLastJedi.com” and corresponding Twitter account popped up in June, purporting to be created by a group of producers who mean to make a new version of “Episode VIII.” Of course, people can pledge money on that website. Supposedly it has raised more than $22 million as of this writing — but claims that the cost of actually making the film will be covered by the unnamed producers behind it.

Director Rian Johnson responded on Twitter to the Remake account, and in keeping with his recent attitude in responding to the worst “Star Wars” fans and their online activities, he was appropriately cheeky. “Please please please please pleeeeeeeaaaase please actually happen,” Johnson wrote.

Rian Johnson ✔ @rianjohnson please please please please pleeeeeeeaaaase please actually happen please please please please please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Remake The Last Jedi ‏@RMTheLastJedi Our team of producers is offering to cover the budget for a remake of The Last Jedi in order to save Star Wars. Share this and spread the word to let @RobertIger & @Disney know you want this! This isn't a joke, we're ready to have the convo now!

It’s the latest step made by a cabal of awful “Star Wars” fans, who have petitioned to have “The Last Jedi” thrown out of the “Star Wars” canon. Those fans are mad about several different things, including the movie’s treatment of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), but also contains (or is made up of) a contingent of fans who are mad about the “social justice warrior” tack the recent movies have taken.

Specifically, bigoted “Star Wars” fans have complained about the new series’ women leads, Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), and about its black male lead, Finn (John Boyega). For all the complaints about story, the vocally angry fans trying to get “Star Wars” changed have harassed the films’ stars, apparently driving Tran off social media service Instagram.

Johnson responded to Tran’s leaving the social network earlier this month, as did Hamill. Johnson called those fans “manbabies” on Twitter, and Hamill supported Tran with a tweet and photo of his own, ending with the hashtag, #GetaLifeNerds.

They can put together some sort of “remake’ but it will never be seen because they don’t own the rights to produce it.

It was a big clue. I did not go.

That has been my shorthand for a long while:

Left Score > Right Score = PC/SJW Propaganda.

Left Score < Right Score = Possible Entertainment.

The only good thing I can say about TLJ is that it at least didn’t completely rehash The Empire Strikes Back, unlike TFA regarding A New Hope. Otherwise, it was pretty much a stinker overall due to being more overtly political than even the prequel trilogy, not to mention outright breaking story elements.

As it is, remaking it is going to be impossible after Carrie Fisher died during production, so sad to say, I don’t think we CAN do it.

And yeah, it’s getting irritating that they are attacking the fanbase. Seriously, as much as I really hated that game for how it needlessly ruined Samus and Adam, the guys who did Metroid: Other M had far more class than the current guys at Lucasfilm. When that game proved to be a sales disaster for the Metroid franchise, they didn’t insult the fans by accusing them of being “fearful of women” or anything like that. Far from it, they went out and asked in person why they didn’t buy it and what they found bad about it. Besides, a good rule of thumb regarding making products for people and selling them is to never, EVER insult your customers. That’s actually a fireable offense at various restaurants. And for good reason: if you insult them, you drive customers away, and with them, any money you and your company might make. Unfortunately, to fix this problem, we need to do far more than just have Paul Kemp, Chuck Wendig, JJ Abrams, Rian Johnston, or even Kathleen Kennedy fired (and believe me, ALL of them had attacked the fanbase). This needs to go straight to the top, we need to get Bob Iger himself fired like his predecessor Michael Eisner. Let’s not forget that he didn’t fire that Jemele Hall lady when she went on that anti-Trump screed on ESPN and claimed she was “an angry black woman” despite her explicitly violating protocol. And he’s had three failures in a row right now: Last Jedi, Solo, and the Wrinkle in Time movie, so that’s another reason he needs to be fired, since he’s getting Disney to lose money.

The latest one-off, SOLO, is the one movie of the new bunch that comes closest to feeling like the original series. Yes, it has an SJW ‘bot in it, but I found it funny in how seriously it takes itself.

Dr. Who is the only one I can think of that hasn’t reached it’s jump-the-shark moment.

Johnson should open a chain of burger joints. His slogan could be 'Have it MY way'. He could clean the streets of dog poop, put it in ALL the burgers and INSIST it ISN'T crap and you MUST buy and like it. That doesn't work in retail and it won't work in Star Wars. We have gagged on his s**t and we won't buy it again.

Of course there IS an audience for bad food and bad entertainment, BUT if Disney thinks they will build a devoted 40 year fanbase with them they will find they are mistaken...about a great many things.

You might try seeing SOLO by yourself one afternoon. I expected the worst but was pleasantly surprised.
