My daughter and I will be traveling to Idaho soon to check out U of I Moscow and surrounding areas.
Thinking of doing a loop through Reno, up 95 and back down through Oregon.
Looking for ideas, suggestions, warnings and general information.
Thank you.
Dont drive on US95 between Winnemucca and Marsing after dark, especially near Jordan Valley. Lots of deer on the move!
Thank you.
When visiting Coeur dAlene don’t hit the elk. They’re big and can do some damage.
Nailed it. I live a couple hours south of Moscow. My son just graduated high school and didn't want to go to Moscow because of the social atmosphere. He picked what his liberal schoolmates call a 'cowboy college' in Idaho State University in Pocatello, southern Idaho. Not sure about the 'cowboy' part, but certainly nicely conservative and a lot less 'woke'.
The shortest route between SoCal and Idaho is to go to Bishop, hook East to Walker Lake, keep going North and get on 95 to Winnemucca and then North through Oregon (which is now 70mph vs 55 in the past) to Idaho. With that route you can visit Manzanar (sp) and if you leave early enough, there is a winery somewhere near Marsing.
Keep your eyes open for new sights and wonders - eat at local places that aren’t chain/franchise...predispose yourself to just enjoy whatever may come....Have Fun
Watch your speed on those empty Nevada roads.
The only two times I’ve been pulled over have been in Nevada.
The park is located 9 miles east of Crescent City on Highway 199. See also Redwood National and State Parks HQ (Information Center) at 1111 2nd St in Crescent City.
