Is this another Dad is Stupid movie? No. Bob is hardly stupid. He's highly challenged to have to take care of the three kids on his own for the first time (especially one with 17 new powers). But the movie clearly depicts him as a loving father.
Not to give away too much, but there's a very tender scene where Bob apologizes to his daughter for messing up (won't tell you how he messed up). He tells her "All I ever wanted was to be a good Dad". Violet tells him "You're not a good Dad; you're a Super Dad!" and gives him a forgiving hug.
One of my favorite scenes.
