I might be wrong but I know of no other game that forgeting to sign your scorecard eliminates you from the game. Any other sport that this would happen in they would merely ask you to sign it. This rule is to ad something into golf that is missing.....a sense of relevance.
Defensive ends do it all the time. Standard play in football is to comit any offense to prevent a touchdown....perfectly logical!!!
Good luck with rehab and get back on the course soon!
Phil just proved how quick his mind works to save two strokes and give us something to talk about. Outstanding decision Phil!!
I prefer to be right.....but I won’t hold it against you for being wrong.. /sarcasm.
“allows the judges to consider another rule, “
Nope.
In other words, “I fart in your general direction”.
“I may be wrong”
The one part of your post that is NOT wrong ...
Exactly. The amount of outrage over this by certain people (looking at you, Joe Buck & Fox) says more about them then Phil.
Ball is addressed, the backswing finishes and the down stroke starts and the ball settles in the grass or brush, player cannot stop the downward stroke to avoid hitting a moving ball. Had it happen to me more than once when playing from the second cut on a couple of good courses. Took a two stroke penalty on the hole. But that hole was a disaster anyway since my shot on the settling ball took a wild path from the club and the darn ball moved on the green when I was placing my coin to mark it.
He was assessed the penalty of the rules. Frankly it’s the whiners bitching he should be kicked out that are embarrassing. It’s a two stroke penalty, that’s the rule. Suck it up.

YES
The two situations are not nearly equivalent.

LMAO
I hope this is satire.
If not, LMAO.
Opinions vary..
Incorrect, Sir.
In case you haven't read all of the replies here, I refer you to Exception 1 of rule 1-2: (in non golfer's terms since I don't think you are a golfer based on your comments in this thread)......if any rule other than 1-2 applies, proceed under the other rule, not 1-2.
Rule 1-2 is a generic, catch all rule that can be used if no other rule applies.
Finding a situation in golf in which no other rule applies is akin to finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Let me know if you do that....
