Educated people in India frequently know three languages; their regional or provincial language, Hindi, and English. People in Pakistan, and many/most Muslim Indians speak Urdu. Urdu is similar to Hindi, I can’t tell them apart when I hear them spoken. Pakistan was part of India until 1947. Indians and Pakis are similar like Americans and Canadians. However I should say that Verma sounds like a Hindu name, so it would not be super easy to pretend to be a Pak.
That is familiar to me; I was thinking that someone with a Paki accent would be immediately picked up by Pakis or Indians.
Of course Paki was India until the hell of partition. One of the stupidest things that ever happened, so many deaths. And the moslems in greater India, other than descendents of the invaders, were Hindus (or others) forced into Islam.
