This thread quickly devolved into a painful, silly, off topic mish-mash!
"MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE" is as far removed from being a "cult film", as another poster's throwing in "LAWRENCE OF ARABIA" and most of the other plain old regular films listed as well!
I'll give you an okay re NAPOLEON DYNAMITE as one, never saw EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINAGTED and don't know anything at all about it, so shall pass, but FULL METAL JACKET and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE don't count either.
Please don't think that I'm picking on you; I'm not!
I'm "picking" on EVERYONE on this thread who has less than NO idea what the definition of a CULT FILM is!
There are all kinds of cult films, out there, to pick from an d list; some posters did...most did not!
Just because a film is a fantasy movie or Sci-fi...does NOT make it a "CULT FILM"!
The same is true for re an offbeat/weird movie!
OTOH...just a regular movie, made by Disney: SONG OF THE SOUTH, has now become a cult film, because it is difficult to impossible to get a copy of now and is NEVER ever shown on T.V. or anywhere any more. And a large group of people LOVE that movie and what to get the DVD of it.
FREAKS had a following since it was first shown, 84 years ago, and still does, today; though it IS shown on TCM a lot, and you can buy the DVD.
And "cult films" also go in and out of fashion...HAIR SPRAY, for example. It had a HUGE following, was even made into a Broadway show, but is now in the dust bin of "cult" following.
Can I make you a calm down cocktail..........
Agree with you that this thread quickly morphed away from cult films. Some folks just don’t pay attention to the topic of a thread.
