I love that film. It is what made me a Cusack fan. Like so many Brits, Driver does a good Yank accent. Having sis Joan in the film was a big plus.
Their obnoxious politics have dampened my enthusiasm for both.

This thread quickly devolved into a painful, silly, off topic mish-mash!
"MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE" is as far removed from being a "cult film", as another poster's throwing in "LAWRENCE OF ARABIA" and most of the other plain old regular films listed as well!
I'll give you an okay re NAPOLEON DYNAMITE as one, never saw EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINAGTED and don't know anything at all about it, so shall pass, but FULL METAL JACKET and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE don't count either.
Please don't think that I'm picking on you; I'm not!
I'm "picking" on EVERYONE on this thread who has less than NO idea what the definition of a CULT FILM is!
There are all kinds of cult films, out there, to pick from an d list; some posters did...most did not!
Just because a film is a fantasy movie or Sci-fi...does NOT make it a "CULT FILM"!
The same is true for re an offbeat/weird movie!
OTOH...just a regular movie, made by Disney: SONG OF THE SOUTH, has now become a cult film, because it is difficult to impossible to get a copy of now and is NEVER ever shown on T.V. or anywhere any more. And a large group of people LOVE that movie and what to get the DVD of it.
FREAKS had a following since it was first shown, 84 years ago, and still does, today; though it IS shown on TCM a lot, and you can buy the DVD.
And "cult films" also go in and out of fashion...HAIR SPRAY, for example. It had a HUGE following, was even made into a Broadway show, but is now in the dust bin of "cult" following.
Blues Brothers and It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
Story goes that when President Reagan took office one of the first things he wanted to see was the war room. It only existed in the movie.
Back in the 80s when home video hit the big time, not one B-52 crew member was without their own copy of “Dr. Strangelove.”
Wild Wilderness Drive-Thru safari is just a few miles north of here.
Has anyone mentioned Porkys?
Only the shower scene and the later discussion in the principal’s office. One of the funniest scenes ever.
Buckaroo Banzai
Lazardo: “Where are we going?”
Aliens: “PLANET TEN”
Lazardo: “When are we going?”
Aliens: “REAL SOON!!!”
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
Blondie: “There are two types of people...those with guns and those who dig. YOU DIG.”
YES!
Add Chicken Run and Second Hand Lions to that list.
“The January Man” A 1989 movie starring Kevin Kline and Alan Rickman in a supporting role.
Costarring a young Scarlett Johansson, before she grew into an irritating Hollywood scold. Steve Buscemi. And of course it is heavily influenced by the art of R. Crumb. A “small movie”, which are typically ones that I like.
If you want a real gem get Dinner Rush. Ensemble cast. Takes place in a Tribeca eatery which I’ve heard is owned by the guy who made the movie- supposedly his other career is shooting TV commercials, so he really understands how to get the most out of every shot. Great story line too.
The President’s Analyst starring James Coburn
Dang, late to the thread, but heres a vote for Kellys Heroes.
And dont forget Remo Williams - The Adventure Begins.
if YOU’RE GONNA LIST Crusoe then Enemy Mine should be listed to!
Yeah me too.
Loved Alan Arkin as the shrink too.
I’ve yet to see the sequel. I’m waiting for it to come out on amazon or netflix. I will search and see if I can watch it for free on the internet somewhere.
