Something to entertain this weekend
ROKU users, Tubi TV is offering at no charge this movie (with Samuel L. Jackson)
"THE RED VIOLIN".
Movie synopsis
Vudu is also offering for rental.
Though some might consider this a film for females, it truly is much more and even males might find themselves intrigued. After all, Jackson is here, as well as a mystery.
The other film is from 1950 - "LAST HOLIDAY" with Alec Guinness. A remake of this film from Queen Latifah was done in the past few years, but certainly cannot be compared to the first. The movie seen 20 years ago and the story is one to be remembered.
Movie synopsis
This can be found on You Tube RED, and there is a fee.
LAST HOLIDAY
Yep, I couldnt find an earlier version either. It must have been the first time I ever saw S.L. Jackson and I had nothing to connect him to. And when I saw him in later films, I didnt recognize him as having been in The Red Violin. In which case, the Roku version is the one and only and I highly recommend it. Just for the music alone. It inspired me to pick up my classic guitar again. I think there was a mesmerizing Gypsy scene that was very inspirational,....... music-wise.
> “sorry, but i thought the Red Violin was an awful movie, and that Jackson was grossly miscast ..”
Yea, but you have to admit that he was the most bad@ss violin appraiser ever shown on film.
ABSOLUTELY, At your service my brother. Just sign up for a library card and start ordering your DVD's.
Older DVD's will likely be available for you to pick up within a couple of days but you might have to wait a while for the new releases..............
Let me know where you live and I can tell you which library is closest for you to schedule your pick up...
Please get back to me as soon as you can Mr. Lee and let me know how it worked out for you............
LOL!
Easy Peasy........
I’m starting to go for RedBox. 1.75 fairly new releases-easy access outside most grocery stores. Go online to pick your film for easier pickup.
Thanks!
No longer living in Dallas, so no library card.
The small town in which we now live, does have a library, but other than books, no idea what other offerings might be available.
Doubtful Clinton Macomb public library would even bother w/me as I’m not even a resident of the state.
Thanks for the info, and I will check out our local library. Who knows, the might have evolved from the horse and buggy era.
Another great gem with Alec Guiness- and hard to find - is All to Sea (also known as Barnacle Bill). Very funny and quality movie.
All of Alec Guiness movies are wonderful
Some of my favorites are:
The Lavender Hill Mob
The Ladykillers
Situation Hopeless But Not Serious
Kind Hearts and Coronets
The Bridge on the River Kwai
The Scapegoat
Little Lord Fauntleroy
I have downloaded many Roku tv and movie apps. I spend my time just looking at the thumbnails of all the shows and rarely get around to actually watching anything!
The thumbnails of the shows are more entertaining!
“Yea, but you have to admit that he was the most bad@ss violin appraiser ever shown on film.”
ROTFLOL!
definitely. every moment i kept expecting him to whip out a big automatic pistol and start shooting up the place ...
Don’t overlook Alec in: The Captain’s Paradise.
Great acting, very funny and a bit of a twist...
“Perhaps bc I am a violist.”
Do you know the difference between a violin and a cello?
A cello burns longer!
haha, thank you for NOT using ‘viola’ in that very funny joke - as it usually is.
To each his own, definitely. ‘Unable to remember details’ only means my take-away was, “What a gross film.” I didn’t expect to have to delineate why ten years later. Will get back to you/ ;)
