B-ball is also popular in China. Why? One of the founders and top general of the PLA (Chinese Army) Zhu De, supposedly learned it at a YMCA / Misson in China when he was very young some 120+ years ago. He thought it would be a good sport for his army - no equipment needed, can play anywhere. So they all learned B-ball.
