That’s not true... todays audience still wants good vs evil... and good winning in the end....
The problem is Hollywood doesn’t want to make that sort of movie... don’t kid yourself by claiming what is made is what audiences want... Look at the movies that fit the good v evil mold, no greys, no bs... and those tend to be the ones that dominate the box office when they are made and made well.
Why do you think it is the only Genre of film to consistently make money of Super Hero films?
Because they are largely the ONLY genre, which, for the most part consistently plays that storyline.
There IS a nihilistic audience out there that want- anti-heroes. Disney is aiming for SOME market and profiting from it. I think the majority still wants uplifting, genuine hero films that are not caped super-heroes, but we are getting mighty tired and disgusted. Looking for tiny crumbs in otherwise depressing films is demeaning. Nostalgia only excuses so much; but audiences( younger, target audiences) are far different now than they were when SW became a world wide phenomenon. You’d think that-if another 40 yr phenomenon is what they want- they’d follow the formula instead of throwing it away and denigrating it-and those who want it-wouldn’t you?
