Thomas Sowell has written extensively on this subject. It is called setting people up for failure.

Hizzoner said his proposals, if fully realized, would eventually induce a massive demographic shift at the specialized high schools.

Well, DeBlasio is right about that. But the real long-term question is where the fleeing smart kids will go, which may depend on how many the private schools can scholarship.

“So if i was a less gifted minority i can take a seat away from a more gifted caucasian.”

Don’t forget the Asians-—and I’ll bet a good portion of the kids in these schools ARE Asian.

DeBlasio shouldn’t even use the term “minority”,Asians are a minority. He is realy saying there will be seats held for “dumb minorities”

That is truly pathetic.

#42: "Thomas Sowell has written extensively on this subject."

Ah, thank you! Yes, that is where I read about it. I wish Thomas Sowell were 30 years younger—we need him now more than ever, but he's getting up in years.

It sound like De Blasio thinks Blacks and Hispanics aren’t smart enough to get into elite high schools. Wow! What a moron.

After the last couple of seasons I think the Giants and Jets are already implementing your suggestion.

About a decade ago, Berkely, CA eliminated its HS AP courses because of the paucity of black and latino participants.

De Blasio said he will fight to eventually replace the single-test system with new admissions criteria based on middle-school class rank and state test scores.

I think we know where DeBlasio is heading with this, but for the record, the devil is in the details. State test scores could serve as a reasonable proxy for the admissions exams, if used rigorously. But of course, when the program is rolled out, I expect that selection will depend 10 percent on test scores, 50 percent on class rank, and 40 percent on subjective scoring based on "holistic" considerations.

Let’s scrap licensing requirements for non-critical professions as well, shall we?

I would love to read an explanation of why Asians are so successful from someone who claims that Whites make it impossible for minorities to succeed.

Embrace the SUCK New York! The Governor and the Mayor were elected by millions who AGREE with this. That’s the problem.

Mayor de Blasio unveiled a plan Saturday to boost black and Latino enrollment at ruin the city's eight specialized high schools. ML/NJ

If you recall, I posted a similar article a couple weeks ago. It would literally only take one ghetto feral per class to absolutely ruin that class. The teacher's time would be taken up, not by teaching and helping, but with instant disciplinary issues. If these kids missed the cutoff score for the entrance exam, then clearly their reading level is not up to snuff (MUST have a level 4 of 4 possible reading levels to perform adequate work at these very high academic level high schools) and they will not be able to do the work assigned in the classes at these elite schools. Thus frustrated, they will act out and ruin everyone's opportunity to learn, too. Sort of a dog-in-the-manger attitude. It is also probable that they do not have the good academic habits which allowed the present students to pass the entrance exam and then excel at their studies. So they will not do well due to that as well.

Frankly, what does it matter what ethnicity the students have at a given high school? Why are racial quotas so important? How will the admittance of lower performing students with probable behavioral problems improve the schools? DeBlASSio claims that the parents of the present students in these elite schools are in a higher socio-economic bracket which allows them to hire tutors to coach their kids for the exam. Well, if spending their money on such a thing were important in the ghetto culture, instead of spending any available funds on high-dollar sneakers, flash jewelry, drugs, and alcohol, they'd have the money for tutors. As a matter of fact, many NYC have free tutoring for many subjects after school. The catch is, you have to give up some of your free time to attend that tutoring, and clearly the ghetto kids are not sufficiently motivated to do that.

So DeBlASSio and his new brother-from-another-mother schools chancellor "La Raza" Carranza are trying to ruin these exceptional schools because both are inflexibly tied into their Commie agendas. Can't be anyone exceptional nor anyone abysmal; everyone must be the same: mediocre.

Didn't Sowell attend an elite Harlem HS?

I think he said that he was top of his class in NC(?), not having to work very hard, and when his family moved to Harlem, he realized he not only had competition, but had to crack the books to keep up.

I wonder what became of that HS?
