The people who keep pit bulls are attracted to this breed for that very reason. It compensates for something that the owner feels is missing in his own psyche. It is like the weirdos who keep highly venomous snakes: Charges filed against man who kept deadly reptiles inside Thousand Oaks home.
In the last four years three different species of deadly cobras have been found roaming a Thousand Oaks neighborhood and killing at least one dog. They were kept by yet another narcissist who thinks his weird love for deadly creatures trumps the safety of the community.
If these escaped cobras started breeding, it would be an ecological catastrophe which would change Southern California forever, far worse than the other illegal invaders.
Pit bulls and deadly snakes don't belong in residential neighborhoods.

Had one of these in my town - had a Gabon Viper
One day bit him when trying to feed it
Had to be transported to Jacoby Medical Center in Bronx
(fortunately only short distance away) where have anti venom
at Bronx Zoo
Town told him - either you go or the snakes go
He left
I live in a residential neighborhood and today I saw a man walking his muzzled pitbull. Thankfully he lives a mile from my home.
