Updating Brave for me has been painless - it will announce that there’s an update available on a bar at the top and asks if you want to restart the browser now or later. I’ve been using it for over a year now and never had an update where it messes up an internet connection.
Brave is a great browser for privacy. Not sure what paytrace.net is, but try uninstalling then reinstalling the Brave app. That should fix your issue.
You could try Dolphin browser.
