Because the First Amendment protects us from government censorship. Employers can fire you for tweets or Facebook posts that make them look bad. Happens all the time. Social Media has cost more people jobs in the last few years than many other causes.

Roseanne Barr can tweet, say, yodel anything she likes, just as Kathy Griffin can. But Griffin lots a lot of engagements because of that idiocy, and now Roseanne has lost a show, too.
I think a lot of people here are conflating a right to do something with whether or not it’s smart to do it in every circumstance.
