You have probably had your IQ evaluated and not even known it. Civil service tests and the ASVAB are two examples. Admission tests to colleges pretty much measure your IQ. They are good measures of learning potential but give no clue as to actual achievement potential.

With all that being said, I've known mensas that couldn't tie their own shoe laces. I've known average backroads people that are smart and clever and would never meet the standards set by the corporate system for a job even though they have the right skills.

IMO, an IQ test is not an ego inflator unless you are like Sheldon on BBT where he uses his IQ as a weapon against those he feels are intellectually inferior.

I scored a 99 on the ASVAB over twenty years ago when I was in my early forties. They told me that was a perfect score. I wouldn’t have scored that high without a lot of practical knowledge of tools and solving real world work problems. Kids out of high school would really have to be sharp to know those things.
