You DO have to pass the test. Why she decided to do that is beyond me. You are just begging to be surveilled.

There are even new bands to use that almost nobody is using that are CW only and could have been used to ping people: 2200M and 630M. Use 1500W and you can reach Australia if you want using a computer generated CW hash of letters and numbers.

At the time I was really interested in HAM radio, I think that Morse Code was a requirement at some level. But that was eons ago. When I got my tech license, it was not. Much more recent times, of course. And yes, limited band usage and all that. I’d have to re-read the rules if I ever sought to venture out into the Ham world.
