This caused me to recall some comments from ultra-prog relatives in Chicago/area. They tear up and get lumps in their throats over Harold.

I wonder: was this the real genesis of the idea of a radical progressive black POTUS? If Harold Washington could do it in Chicago, why couldn’t whatever-his-name-really-is do it in Washington, DC?

I believe you are right on...

I was there during the end of the Mayor Dailey realm, then Mike Bilandec (jerk) and then Jane Byrne (quasi repub) and then Harold. Basically he said we are gonna show you how to run this and he was corrupt as corrupt could be and set the tone for the Senator from Illinois to climb the ladder

I left in 1984 for good and would never consider moving back, most corrupt city I have ever seen
