I dont know whether the Murphy Brown reboot planned for fall will be funny, but I do know its going to be political. At Tuesdays CBS upfront the annual unveiling of new fall shows for the networks to sell to advertisers Candice Bergen was on hand to introduce a peek at the first new season of Murphy Brown since the show went off the air in 1998 after 10 seasons. Bergen, looking impish and energetic at age 72, said that we wanted to stay really topical, so we didnt shoot a pilot because if we did wed already be several news cycles and Stormys out of date.
I wonder if Bergen and the network really comprehend the potential resistance theyre going to face with this new Murphy Brown. The network theyre satirizing Fox News is going to be out there full-force, stirring up animosity among their viewers for this liberal sitcom. This will be especially true if the network and its audience believe that Roseanne has been muzzled for its conservative views.
Its not as though Murphy Brown has never been political before this, of course. That son shell soon be competing against is the same born-out-of-wedlock child that inspired real-life criticism from Vice President Dan Quayle back in 1992. Bergen whose movie career is still active with the comedy Book Club opening this weekend isnt shying away from the Fox News comparisons: Cable news is populated with all kinds, like the Hannitys of the world and actual journalists too, she said. The new Murphy Brown will have a combination of old and new cast members, including Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto, and Grant Shaud from the original cast. CBS has ordered 13 episodes for a fall premiere.

Is the child of Murphy Brown going to grow up to be a homosexual, ADD-drugged school shooter? Or a member of a terrorist activist organization that burns crosses on the lawns of Republicans?
Probably means the series will start (as the pilot did) with some conservative sounding teases thrown in to entice conservatives to watch and then as time goes on the full blown liberalism will emerge.
I’ll attempt a hypothetical:
Roseanne now: “You know, you don’t have to agree with the NRA in order to believe that people do have a right to defend themselves, even with a gun if necessary.”
Roseanne later: “The world would be a much better place if people had to turn in their guns and there were no more guns anymore. Self defense? Use pepper spray or start working to eliminate the root causes of crime such as poverty, racism, and white privilege.”
I see what you did there.
;^)
As if there are no liberal shows on tv
Actually, that was her "brother"
Never saw It. Never Will.
In other words, yet another liberal biased show competing with all the rest of them. Yeah......good luck with that. Fool........
So....like 98% of all the other stupid sitcoms out there. Sounds like a wiener.
Television series make more money in syndication than they do in their original runs. “Topical” shows will have the shelf life of an avocado. At the rate things move these days, the episodes would be out of date by the time the Summer reruns started.
It will be Anti-Trump 24/7 and no one will watch
Gone to seed.
Now that’s a saying that I haven’t heard in at least 40 years.
