I have the opportunity to donate quite a bit of money out of a trust to the charities of my choosing. I used to personally donate to Save the Children until I watched them posting all this Huffpo garbage on their Facebook page. O'Sullivan's Law is a real phenomenon, so I'm looking for some charities that will help those in need but also those that reflect our values.
I was thinking St. Jude's Children's Hospital and The Wounded Warrior Project - any others or better ones that you guys would recommend?
Convoy of Hope is faith-based and does a lot of good work - they try to get to the scene of natural disasters as soon as practical, although they do more than just disaster relief.
Salvation Army is consistently frugal, honest, and non-denominational Christian in its outlook. My uncle had an especially strong respect for the Catholic St. Vincent DePaul Society when, during WW II, they would provide free clothing and toiletries to fellow merchant mariners who had lost all their possessions after being torpedoed in the North Atlantic.
