Yep. I really liked my job in retail. It paid $5 an hour (1978) so I got something better (COBOL programmer).

As from the office politics, I liked my jobs in public television but professional poverty had no virtues.
After a fair amount of time and sacrifices (paying dues),I got into better paying gigs.
