Gregory the beagle has become a local celebrity after a photo of the hound on his freedom ride" went viral, his rescuer says.
Gregory was recently taken to the Franklin County Shelter and Adoption Center after he found running astray. While the hound was in relativity good health, his heartworm test came back positive and was subsequently placed on the shelters euthanasia list.
I saw the shelters post and my husband immediately drove there to pick him up, Schenley Hutson Kirk, co-founder of Hound Rescue and Sanctuary, told Fox News on Friday.
On the two-hour drive back to Findley, Gregory couldnt contain his excitement. While new rescues are typically transported in a crate during the drive back to the sanctuary, she said, Kirks husband, Joe, let the pup ride safely tethered to the backseat.
He [Gregory] was so overwhelmed and excited, he was licking Joe and being so affectionate, Kirk said.
At a stop light, Joe decided to snap a picture of the pup on his freedom ride. At that same moment, Gregory snuggled up to Joe, tenderly looking up to his rescuer.

Blurry picture.
Give him a nice big juicy steak.
Already spoken for and approved for adoption once the treatment is finished.
Sweet boy.
Yikes...photobucket quit doing that feature. Dang.
My wife and I have rescued two Beagles and love this story and photo.
Beautiful picture! God bless his new ‘parents’.
That is the sweetest photo!! Pure love. Gregory knows.
I think our rescue cats know they escaped dreadful, and probably short, lives.
Same with my boxer, Dixie. Best dog ever! Adopted her from a rescue shelter when she was 8. She finally succumbed to heart failure at 15, pretty old for a boxer.
Still miss her.
We order our cats’ medicine from Australia, too. If bought in the U.S. it would require a prescription and be much more expensive.
No!
Heart worms are passed to dogs by infected mosquitoes.
We only had ours a little over 3 years. She wound up with pancreatitis.
We now have a super crazy Mutt. No clue what she is but boy is she a handful. Lol
I was able to get a Queensland Heeler about 8 weeks old. When she is quiet, she is a love.
When she is in her ‘manic’ state, she is like a Jack Russel on SPEED.
No name yet, but BERZERK is on the list.
No, they are spread through mosquito bites. We've had two rescue dogs that had to go through treatments. It is expensive but it was worth it.
Well you have me beat. This one is never quiet and always in a manic state. I just call her crazy. Shes lovable as all get out. She just cant be still. Never sleeps unless I put her in her crate...her quiet place. We got her at 2 months, shes 2 now and is just now getting where shell lay down with me and nap. Like a baby. She wont sleep at all during the day unless I lay down with her. Ive never had a dog that doesnt sleep!
We have always had boxers....til this one. She was supposed to be a boxer cross....and actually kind of looked like it,when 2 months old. Shes almost 2 now, looks nothing like a boxer and is absolutely nuts. Lol
