Q is probably a military person. There is a specific military command of "PICKLE!". It is used mostly by fighter and bomber aircrew. When all the firing and aiming parameters are met for releasing a bomb or firing a rocket/missile and the weapons release point is optimal, the verbal command is given, "PICKLE!" meaning release/fire ordnance RIGHT NOW!

Q mentions a number of things in his post, all of which require the conditions to be right. When they are and the command is given it is followed shortly thereafter by a BOOM!

Oooo I like that explanation too. Glad Q is making the decision and we can just watch it unfold. Best mystery book I’ve never read.
