Nice! I was hoping somebody out there would get the reference.

Laika the Space Dog was under-appreciated. I don't care that Laika was a Soviet dog either. Dogs have no ideology. Dogs are dogs! But Laika was a Space Dog and that makes her extra special.

Hurled into space with one meal and a 7-day supply of oxygen, poor Laika was doomed from the start.

Hopefully Laika has a special place in dog heaven.

Nice. But poor thing didn’t have a heat shield on the capsule, so she burned up on re-entry. Not a surprise, simply the Russians didn’t have the shield yet ready to fly, but everything else was ready.

Another story was regarding a dog that did make it back to Earth alive. The moment they unstrapped the dog, he ran for the hills...that was the last they saw of him.
