Prabhu Bhatara was on his way back to Papadahandi, a town in the state of Odisha, with others in an SUV after a wedding. Along the way home, the driver saw a wounded bear on the side of the road. His friends told him not to leave the vehicle to take a selfie with the wild animal, but he ignored their pleas. He got close to the bear, which started chasing him. It then mauled him, and he "died on the spot," forest ranger Dhanurjaya Mohapatra told the Hindustan Times.
The passengers in the SUV saw the entire incident. Officials said they chose to film the scene on their phones instead of calling for help. The only one to help Bhatara was a stray dog, which jumped into action and tried to free him from the bear. The dog's efforts failed, officials said.
“The bear is being treated for its injuries,” Mohapatra told the Hindustan Times.

Don’t be obtuse. The point is not that the idiot’s friends did not try to attack the bear or drive it off. The point is that they just video’d their “friend”’s death instead of calling for help.
The guy who's occupied with Yogi seems to have had some really bad karma, so, perhaps not getting involved is the best option...
I don’t believe them. If they had the character to try to stop him, they’d have the character to call for help. I’m not convinced he was a willing participant.

The dog is the hero in this story.
A stray? He deserves to get a forever home out of this fiasco. I hope it happens.

Some things are so stupid nobody would believe it without video. A person that stupid probably wasn’t long for this world anyway.

I guess they figured he was a goner anyway, so they might as well record and post it.
I remember seeing a home video program (not “America’s Funniest”) that showed a man getting out of his car to feed a bear while his wife videoed them. The bear took the food and then grabbed the man by the arm and pulled it off at the shoulder.
Now, this video had to have been submitted to be on the show. I wonder how the conversation went with the couple. “Hey, Ralph. Do you remember the time when that bear pulled your arm off? I wonder if we still have the video. We should send it in to be on this show.”
Definite Darwin Winner for the year.
