Short answer; NO! Long answer: our grids are woefully out of date, most of them are interconnected so that a failure at one will lead to cascading failures to most of them (cept Texas, I think, I think they declined to join up). When Trump is talking about infrastructure, he's talking the grid.
Have a woodstove, good oil lamps (Aladdin are the best!) and an independent source of water. Oh, and you could be cool like me and have a pink outhouse on your property.
If you are getting alarmed about talk of EMPs, good. You could always GTS (google that sh!t) or there are plenty here who are more knowledgeable than I, but I bet no one has has much recent experience living off the grid as I have. Don't want to scare you, just educate you.
Everyone in my family has a bug out bag, but we are not as cool as you to have a pink outhouse, wow that’s awesome!
We also have food stores, etc., but as far planning for life without electricity for a long stretch...we are not prepped for that.
Thank you!
Prepping question:
Our generator has it’s own little shedbox, about 5’x4’x3’. Would layering foil on the inside act as a Faraday cage? Should be stored w/battery disconnected?
