Hippa doesn’t protect you from data mining,
I sold targeted internet advertising. 8-10 years ago, I told a doctor I could advertise blood pressure meds to those that take blood pressure meds he called me a liar cause of Hippa. I told him all I needed was a list of the IP addresses in the store when the pills are taken out of inventory and paid for. then I just compare that to the list of phones in the store next time it happens, the phone on both lists is the person buying the blood pressure meds and now I can advertise to that phone and I can predict when they will need pills again so I don’t have to waste ad money I can just make the ad show up right before they need pills again cause I know it was 45 days since last time they bought them. So they can know very personal information about a person without even knowing their name and “invading their privacy”
One of my sons does that now.. at the moment targeted for Medicare supplemental policy leads. We keep kidding him that he works for the Dark Side.
He laughingly agrees that generally speaking, his job is to find people with needs before they consciously realize they have those needs.
Thanks for that info.
