My understanding is SS picks a letter and then gives the subject a list of possibles. Once the principle picks a name for themselves, the others in the family receive names w/the same initial letter. Not sure if principle picks the family codes or SS just assigns.
Or SS could just give the principle the letter and they pick their own name(s).
