When French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, arrive Tuesday at the White House, they will be greeted by a military band playing strains of brassy notes and a 21-gun salute in a pomp-filled ceremony that will be followed by a state dinner.
The first official state visit of the Trump administration will be the biggest moment yet for first lady Melania Trump to play hostess-in-chief, an element of her role she enjoys more than some of the other duties that have come with her position.(snip)
Remember, she has a design background, Grisham said, referencing Trumps career as a fashion model and as owner of her namesake jewelry line.
She has amazing taste, which makes things very, very easy, added social secretary Rickie Niceta.
For her first state dinner, Trump did not engage the services of an outside event planneras most modern administrations have doneto supplement the White House staff, preferring to rely on her own choices and those of Niceta, who before coming to the White House worked for more than two decades at catering and design firm Design Cuisine.
Aides are keeping details under wraps until the dinner, but guests Tuesday night will see the first ladys hand in details big and small, including the floral arrangements and the menu.
Trump chose to hold the dinner for the French dignitaries in the State Room, the smallest of the White House venues used for such events. The guest list is a modest 130 to 150, making for a more intimate soiree than many state dinners in previous administrations. (For example, the Obamas last state dinner, for Italy, packed nearly 400 guests into a tent on the South Lawn.)

Its a reflection of one of the first ladys principles for entertaining, aides said. Trump believes it should never be too crowded, Niceta said. You should be able to move; you should be able to see the White House and feel special that youre here.
Melania is a lady of many talents. She speaks multiple languages, even though Hollywood idiot Chelsea Handler derided her as barely able to speak English. She studied architecture and design.
Melania is an interesting person. The liberals and media types decided she’s a caricature.
Her image would be very different, if she were married to a liberal Democrat president.
If it was Moochelle, the question would be “how many racks of ribs to feed 150? And how many bags of Doritos?”
Mooch would “delegate” everything.
Comments are disgusting. To be expected for WP
Mooch would delegate everything. She’d just want to show up and eat.
I hope it will be an amazing success. The president and first lady did not invite any democrats nor press, good!
Melania doesn't take being First Lady for granted, or worse yet, as a burden (like Mooch did). Melania shows great respect for the position with how she comports herself.
So when before has the White House staff ever felt the need to justify the First Lady’s ability to organize a state dinner?
I was just about to say the same thing . I did not see one decent comment for Melania.
To The First Lady's List.
If she needs a bus boy I’m available.
I’m confused. I heard this morning that Trump was hosting something with Macron at Mt. Vernon. I remember wondering about the huge job of doing that at a remote location. Was that fake news?
State Dinner at White House later this week.
I am stunned that the WaPo said that Obama “Packed ... into a tent on the ... lawn.” I always thought that it was so tacky to have state dinners in a tent. The White House has beautiful dining rooms. PDJT won’t fill the room with Hollywood celebrities and lobbyists. I also like it a lot that he uses the many musical groups of our armed forces for his events.
The Obamas thought the more the merrier, which of course made it less special for everyone.
The MSM is just itching for any little tidbit they can criticize, when in fact planning a nice event like this is right up Melania’s alley.
She is so beautiful, gracious, and classy. She makes us proud in a way that Michele and Hillary never could.
