VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was stabbed in the neck while holding his young daughter on his lap while dining at a restaurant on the Ventura Promenade.
Ventura police received multiple calls around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday about a stabbing at the Aloha Steakhouse at 364 S. California St.
Police said the victim and his wife were having dinner along with their 5-year-old daughter at the time of the attack, which appeared to be unprovoked.
Investigators said there was no altercation or contact prior to the attack, and the victim and suspect did not appear to know each other.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a group of good Samaritans standing along the Ventura Promenade who had chased the suspect from the crime scene onto the beach, investigators said.
Officers tracked down the suspect and ordered him to the ground. He complied and was detained on suspicion of attempted homicide.
Police identified the suspect as 49-year-old Jamal Jackson, describing him as a local vagrant.
While Jackson was being taken into custody, other responding officers found the victim at the crime scene, suffering from a life-threatening stab wound to the neck. The officers rendered first aid to the man until medical responders arrived on scene.
The victim was transported to a local hospital to be taken immediately into surgery. Following surgery, the victim was listed to be in critical condition.
The manager of the Ventura restaurant said the victim's family called to thank them and the good Samaritans who took action during the stabbing.
A motive in the stabbing was not immediately known, police said.
Maybe you ought to find some common sense instead of posting like an idiot.
Never.
Please show me the lies that I’ve made up about you! And exactly where did I bully you? Are you a leftist snowflake now that believes when people disagree with them that it’s bullying? Go find your “safe space”.

It totally baffles me that someone who calls herself a conservative can be so callous and have such disregard to the crime that was committed and focus on bedtime. Shes ultimately blaming the father for being attacked not the criminal. Totally warped thinking. So glad that my mind doesnt think that way. Im sitting here praying for the little girl and her mother and only blaming Jamal Jackson for this tragedy. I bet she also blames rape victims for the clothing they wear or where they are when attacked. Sick and perverse!!!!

“Maybe you ought to find some common sense instead of posting like an idiot.”
Well, donna responded “never” to this post so I would say it says it all. They are more interested in their posts and the reactions to them, rather than the reason behind it all.
I am so sad for this family and need to use my energy to pray for them instead of responding to someone who sees normal families in such an ugly light. I am happy that there are more folks who will be praying and caring instead of criticizing and blaming the victims.
Is that not in your list of proper conduct?
Exactly.
De-institutionalizing crazy people is a disastrous failure that has made the streets dangerous.
All of us know this, but apparently both of our political parties don’t give a damn. The status quo must enrich these scumbags in some fashion that we don’t know about.
Add in Jerry Brown releasing thousands of criminals under Props 47 & 57 and you have the perfect storm here in Cali.
If their plan isn’t intended to drive us all out of this state, this will do until that plan actually arrives.
Things are deteriorating rapidly.
.
Soilent processor.
.
The importance of situational awareness in public places can not be overemphasized.
Guns are hardly the issue here.
What we need is to restart the mental health system that California used to have, and take crazy people off of the streets.
Enforce vagrancy laws.
And stop the early release of criminals that Props 47 & 57 have inflicted on California,
“It is wrong to keep a 5-yr-old up that late. Ask any doctor.”
Who on earth would check a doctor about bedtimes?
Most parents have good, common sense and can figure that out all by themselves.

.
Declared unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court decades ago.
Mothers do.
“Mothers do.”
Maybe some do,but most don’t.
.
Doctors always ask about it during checkups.
Yep. As you say, that one is the Queen of the Scolds.
So, please point out the lie in that paragraph. You do call yourself a conservative, you do disregard the crime of a death and rather focus on the child’s bedtime (and by doing so, say that by being out that late it was the father’s doing that he got killed). Since you talked about his “hypothetical use of his family as a cover”, I also created a hypothesis that you’d blame the victim of a rape on the clothes she wore. No lies in that paragraph.
“Declared unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court decades ago.”
Congress may have the power to undo the SCOTUS’ decision legalizing vagrancy by “jurisdiction stripping”.
It’s a decision removed from the real world that has made cities unable to defend themselves.
You wonder if a poster of that sort is real or is a troll posting stuff here in order to discredit FR by association.
“Oh, look at what those callous conservative fools believe!”
