Was in an F86 at the time and the canopy came unlocked, slid back slamming my helmet against the headrest, while the cockpit became instant grey and all the junk on the floorboard went flying out. Fortunate for me, the canopy slid back to within a couple inches where it was supposed to be. The oxygen system went full-pressure, making it difficult to talk and be understood by center when telling I was making an emergency descent. The only bad thing about the whole ordeal was that a lot of the carbonation was in my bloodstream and it was screaming to come out also - like the bends from deep-sea-diving if you come up too fast.
Good job, and thank you for your service, even though you got to work with most fun gadgets.
Thank you for your service ((((Hugs))))
In an F86, love that plane. So I’m guessing a while ago when Coke was actually good and carbonated. Did you have to let down in stages to counteract the ‘bends’ like symptoms or did you take it all at once? Any after effects once you got down? A great story.
Wow.
Fortunately, an Angel didn't get his wings that day.
