I would love to read a good account of Franco. I know Farewell Catalonia is a insightful Orwell account but I am looking for something more overall.
Yeah, I must have read it 20 years ago, so don’t recall who wrote it. I am cheap, so get most of my reading materials from the local library.
The Spanish Labyrinth by Gerald Brenan is also a classic on the years leading up to the Civil War.
Brenan was on the fringe of the Bloomsbury group and took off to Spain to read and educate himself rather than attending university.
