I had to read that name twice - I kept thinking it was the Dali Lhama, with the Buddhist’s burning.
I can’t figure out why this guy wanted to burn himself - but with nobody around? I imagine he had more personal reasons for killing himself, and then figured as a secondary “reason” he could grandstand. But again - not much of an attention-getter if it is done quietly in the woods.
