Just a thought. Nobody likes reading technical journals. Well, maybe some do. Nobody like science class. Again, maybe some do.
My point being. Serious is good. Truth, as you say, is good.
But also important is bonding, camaraderie, and a sense of team. Some amount of fun is necessary in order to "lighten the mood," build the team, keep morale high, AND have a bit of fun while doing serious, mind-numbing, and sometimes even frightening work.
We exist here on an island, in a manner of speaking. We are attacked from all sides. Scorn is heaped upon us by the enemy as well as some of our own people. In both this FR environment and society at large, we are sometimes cast as the kookoobirds and "conspiracy theorists."
I, for one, will keep my sense of humor and not become an automaton that has to remain serious in the face of all this. That road leads to rage. I will remain the happy warrior and laugh in the face of darkness.
Much like in police work, hospital work, emergency responder work, and I assume, military work; humor, sometimes even inappropriate humor, relieves stress and helps keep the group's courage up. The mind needs fun, and yes diversion, or it stares into the abyss too long. And we all know what happens then (Nietzsche).
At least, that's what I think. So, to answer your question:
Are we committed to the TRUTH...or are we in this for fun and diversion.
Both.

Telling it like it is, great summary of this journey we are all traveling.
I love you, Baggs (like a brother). What’s not to love.
