This is sick. They have essentially jailed a baby despite the fact another hospital is willing to give him a better level of care, from the sound of it.
But somebody playing God has judged he doesn’t deserve it.
Now the State can kill Alfie. What a rush for the power-trippers! Real power isn’t the ability to punish the guilty. Real power is the power to punish the innocent.

What may this trend logically lead to?
This trend may lead to parents of very sick children deciding to leave the country and move to where their child can get better care. They would leave England before or immediately after their child became terminal.
There may be certain Hospice Services that operate from Spain, Portugal, Isle of Man, or Australia, for those who can afford it. Low income families would have reduced choices, unless they Crowd Funded.

This type of thing is beginning to remind me of the Berlin Wall. People who disagree with the government’s actions have been prevented from leaving. Children are not under the control or care of their parents but are owned by the state. Scary.
The British Health Care system is failing. They do not have the resources to expend on a dying child. Charlie was expendable and so is Alfie. What I can not understand is why will they not allow the child to leave their care and go somewhere else? All the parents need to know is that they did everything in their power to save their baby!
That knowledge may give the parents some peace. Why will the British government NOT allow them to have that peace?
Every day the British lose a little bit more of their humanity.

The Nazi judges who screamed at and condemned the Hitler conspirators would be so happy with the British legal system these days. Personal rights for native Brits mean nothing any more, there is little freedom left and the government can do anything it wants. And it does. How long before British police start coming around after midnight to round up those who disagree with policy?
I suspect that the hospital may have screwed up somewhere along the way and are trying to cover their butts....???
