After a "few" years' involvement/observation of things military I would opine that the things shown or even postulated in the media or general public are at minimum one or perhaps two generations behind operational equipment.
...and the stuff that's in development???
I've heard engineers flatly state that the first step in a design is definition of the objectives, then just add money and time to get 'er done.

Very true.
I have personally seen, with my own eyes, and in the presence of my very sane (and fantastic) wife, an object flying with what I would call “Inertial drive” (aka: anti-gravity).
I KNOW this because of the instantaneous accelerations to tremendous speed, and then the dead stops.
(Majored in Physics, so I know that gravity and inertia are the same force according to the General Theory of Relativity).
Incidentally, I did NOT think this was an extraterrestrial craft. It is much more probable it was advanced U.S. Government technology.
And yes, this was near Area 51.
