My father said colored till the day he died. It was the polite word to use even in the 60s. Black guys I worked with in the late 60s would say “you know ‘John Smith’? About your height? Colored fella?”

St. Martin Luther King, Jr. used the word "Negro" consistently. You can look it up.

And why is the term "colored people" offensive when "people of color" is consider chic?
