It was created for National Lampoon. VW disavows it completely because if they had actually created it the fallout would have made the Diesel engine scandal seem like a picnic in comparison.
I’m not sure he’s ever taken credit for any part in it, but that ad seems to have P.J. O’Rourke’s fingerprints all over it.
