I stick with my above theory. That leaking that not only ruins the POTUS team overall reveal strategy, which may be connected to more offensive maneuvers, but also may serve to diffuse the information to the media/people. It also lets it become "yesterday's news" and opens the door for startling new revelations of Russian collusions made up completely of whole cloth.
It's kinda' the Clinton way, neh?

p.s. Our enemies are, in fact, stupid. But they do have some strategic thinkers. I think this is their strategy, or very close to it. They must keep Mueller viable at any cost so he can drop a fake BOOM on The Donald at a time of their choosing. This leak perhaps prevents Mueller from being totally disbanded, which was probably part of the Trump reveal plan.
Bagster, if I thought that Mueller was actually working for the bad guys, I could see your point. A spoiling attack might just be in order - from a strategic pov.
I lean more toward the SC ruse theory, the one where (working with the white hats) he got all the filthy FBI leadership in one place and sent them on fools’ errands, even while they were investigated by Horowitz and will probably be charged by Huber.
Mueller is a combat Marine, and as one myself, I am inclined to think he’s doing the right thing and upholding his blood oath to the Constitution, no matter what shady stuff he was tangled with in the past. This one is for all the marbles - to counts. I pray that his eyes have been opened.
