That Isis comment totally brought to mind this book I like but can never find again. It has to do with an advanced computer role playing game in the future that is run by a cabal of international leaders who live in the software as Egyptian gods. Like Isis and them.

Not sure why I'm saying that, just that the idea of powerful international elite billionaires running the world and thinking they are god-like is not so far fetched as to have never been thought of before.

And I can see social misfits and dorks like the Clintons, Soros, and other with more money than sense falling into something like that.

Given all the attempted conquests of history, it would be odd to NOT have a group intent on ruling the world from behind the scenes.

The People's Almanac: David Wallechinsky, Irving Wallace (1975) had a section on contries, their form of government, and "who rules." That part of the almanac also had "who really rules?" The text of that entry is cited in G8 To Bully Bush on Global Warming; Who Really Rules America?. (click that link, it adds the press angle).

Though formally structured as a democratic republic, the U.S. is dominated by an economic and social elite which controls most of the nation's wealth as well as most areas of national and state policy. Because the U.S. allows some class mobility, estimates of the size of the American ruling class vary, but a good figure is about 1/2 to 1% of the population.

The ruling class rules through direct control of the private economy and national communications media, dominance of the executive branch of the federal government, and influence over other government bodies. Members of the ruling class frequently differ over policy issues, but they work together to maintain their positions in American society.

Q certainly knows how to keep surprising us...

It feels like someone took 'Stargate SG1,' 'Person Of Interest,' and 'The Blacklist' and put them in a bowl, stirred them up, and is now pouring it out one serving at a time...
